SPACE CHIKEN AND BACON THECAT
· GALAXY WARRIORS · MUSIC VIDEO · 2:14 ·
Two unlikely best friends stumbling through a strange, colorful universe where bad decisions have cosmic consequences.
THE CHICKEN AND THE CAT
Bacon theCat began with my actual cat, Bacon, who everyone assumes is named after the food. He isn’t. He’s named after painter Francis Bacon, whose work heavily influenced me while I was earning my MFA in painting at Laguna College of Art and Design.
Space Chiken came from me. I had pink hair, Bacon had already become Bacon theCat, and somehow that evolved into a pink space chicken and her cat traveling through the universe, saving the world one galaxy at a time.
From there, the joke became a world, the world became a cast of characters, and eventually I had twenty episodes planned for an animated series.

THE STORY COULD GO ANYWHERE
I’d carried other stories with me for years, but I wanted Fuck Yeah Creative’s first original property to be something we could start making immediately. Space Chiken & Bacon theCat was simple at its core: two characters, a huge universe, and a premise that could take them anywhere.
That freedom was the point. An adventure could be funny, strange, dangerous, heartfelt, or completely ridiculous without requiring a massive mythology to make it work. I began developing the world as an animated series, eventually writing twenty episodes and building the characters and environments as a traditional CG production.
At the same time, I saw an opportunity to give animators I was teaching something they rarely get in a classroom: the experience of working on real shots as part of a larger production. Space Chiken became both an original IP and a place to learn how a show actually gets made.

THE WORLD GOT BIGGER
I originally imagined Space Chiken & Bacon theCat as a simple, gag-driven animated series. I wrote the first twenty episodes in Celtx, building out characters, enemies, allies, locations, and the larger mythology around them as I went.
Then I realized I was starting the story too small.
I went back to the beginning and started rewriting. The good news was that none of the earlier work had been wasted. Those first episodes had created an enormous amount of lore and a world that was much richer than the show I had originally set out to make. What began as two characters bouncing from one ridiculous adventure to another started becoming a larger story with real stakes, relationships, history, and somewhere to go.
ENTER THE FEATHERWEIGHTS
Galaxy Warriors began as a theme song. I created an early version in Suno for Space Chiken & Bacon theCat, assuming it would eventually be replaced. A friend of mine who plays in a punk band spent a day trying to take it further, then told me she didn't think she could make it better. So I kept it.
Then I started imagining the band behind the song. My original plan was wonderfully low-tech: invent a fictional band, recruit some friends, put them in costumes, and shoot them performing as the Featherweights.
As generative filmmaking tools improved, another possibility opened up. Instead of asking real people to pretend to be my fictional band, I could create the Featherweights themselves.
WHEN THINGS GO WRONG
Building the Space Chiken universe with emerging tools produced plenty of unexpected performances, broken physics, strange character behavior, and shots that went spectacularly off the rails. Some were too good to throw away.

WHAT'S NEXT
Space Chiken & Bacon theCat is continuing to grow. With support from the NewNarratives grant from NewFilmmakers Los Angeles & Absurd.ai, I’m developing the next phase of the property and exploring how far I can push the characters, world, and storytelling beyond Galaxy Warriors.
The larger goal has always been bigger than a single music video. Space Chiken & Bacon theCat is an expanding story world, with new characters, relationships, and adventures eme as the property develops.
Each new piece moves the story forward while giving me another opportunity to test and refine how independent animated IP can be produced. The tools will continue to change. Space Chiken and Bacon will keep getting themselves into trouble.
